Parrots are highly intelligent social animals with the ability to fly, yet they are frequently found in captivity. Most parrots in captivity are not more than one or two generations removed from their wild origins, making them wild animals rather than domesticated pets: true domestic animals, like cats and dogs, have been selectively bred for thousands of years to live with us. Forcing socially inclined, flying wild animals to live in a cage, often without companionship, is completely at odds with their nature. Adding in that they can also be loud and sometimes aggressive, they are often a challenge to keep as pets, and rarely behave like what you see on social media. Consequently, many parrots are rehomed multiple times during their lives, where they find themselves in the same situation again. Adding to this is their longevity, often rivaling or exceeding that of their human caretakers, rendering their long-term future uncertain

We strive to provide support for parrots in need. We accomplish this through carefully vetted adoption to new homes, or by providing a permanent home at our sanctuary when necessary. We actively encourage parrot caretakers and adopters to have a long-term plan for the well-being their birds, even if it means returning them to us when the time is right. Consistent with this, our vision includes developing a long-term plan for HoF that will serve the needs of our residents long into the future. This vision includes land and infrastructure directly owned by HoF Inc., and a perpetual endowment fund sufficient to cover the expenses associated with this responsibility.

We know that we can’t save them all, but the ones that find their way to us will receive our unwavering care for as long as it’s possible to do so. As an all-volunteer public charity, we warmly welcome the involvement of our community. Whether you have suggestions, comments, concerns, or simply wish to learn more, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line!
At The House of Feathers, we’re more than just a sanctuary—we're a community of passionate parrot lovers dedicated to changing parrot lives, one bird at a time. Whether offering a forever home to non-adoptable parrots in our sanctuary, or carefully placing adoptable birds in loving homes, every step is fueled by our unwavering commitment to provide the safety, care, and happiness they truly deserve.
Together we bring over 70 years of experience in parrot rescue. This extensive knowledge and passion drive every aspect of our sanctuary’s operations, ensuring the highest standards of care.
Our sanctuary is designed to ensure both the safety and well-being of our parrots. It includes a 750 sq ft mini-home, fully equipped with air conditioning, plumbing, impact-resistant doors and windows, and a standby generator for their comfort in any weather. Outside, we provide 11 flight aviaries of various sizes, each fitted with misting systems, perches, and toys. These spaces offer both mental and physical enrichment, creating a stimulating environment where our parrots can thrive.
Our adoption process is carefully designed to ensure the best fit for both the parrot and the adopter. While we keep fees low to encourage adoption, payment of a fee is a gesture of commitment by prospective owners, showing that adoption is more than a passing fancy.
We operate solely on donations and do not accept payment for our rescue or sanctuary services. Every dollar we receive is from individuals who share our commitment to parrot welfare, ensuring ethical and transparent funding.
As an all-volunteer organization, every donation goes directly toward the care and well-being of the parrots. We are committed to using all resources effectively to benefit the birds, without administrative overheads.
Looking ahead, we are planning to establish an endowment-funded permanent sanctuary to guarantee lifelong care for our parrots. This initiative will ensure they have a stable, loving environment for the rest of their lives.
